Alex de Minaur: I want to get fired up

The world is well and truly at Alex de Minaur’s feet.

Still on a high from his John Newcombe Medal win, an honour he shared with other Aussie youngster Ash Barty, the 19 year old has capped off his most successful year to date.

Rising to number 31 in the world after starting the year outside the top 200, whilst also taking out the ATP Tour newcomer Award, it has been quite the breakout season. And there are no signs of slowing this teen tennis sensation down.

While busy launching the Sydney International tennis tournament this morning, the 19 year old took time out of his busy schedule to catch up with Macquarie Sports Radio breakfast show.

Speaking with hosts Mark Levy and Mark Riddell, de Minaur revealed that he’s been getting inspiration from Lleyton Hewitt for many years as a player he idolised growing up and now as his mentor and guide leading into the 2019 season.

“Watching Lleyton get so fired up is one of the things I want to bring onto the court” Alex revealed.

Turns out Hewitt has been helping the 19 year old for some time now, on and off the court, adding that he is “learning from all of the experiences that he’s been through professionally and otherwise”.

Set to take to stage at the Sydney International at Sydney Olympic Park tennis centre on 6 – 12 JANUARY 2019, all eyes will be on this up and coming superstar, with the best yet to come.
