Andrew Gaze “disappointed” with racism allegations

Australian basketball legend Andrew Gaze has hit back at suggestions of racism directly at members of the national team.

ABC’s The Ticket interviewed an accredited photographer who alleged a number of Boomers called the Philippines players ‘monkeys’ before their now infamous brawl.

Speaking on Afternoons, Gaze said it “wasn’t good journalism” and defended a group of players that “didn’t have an opportunity” to refute the claims made against them.

“Those claims come from a source that at best, is ridiculously unreliable,” the Sydney Kings coach said.

“To me, it wasn’t good journalism. I know the players involved and that type of accusations isn’t in their DNA and the terminology they are referring to is not something they’d ever use.

“It was really, really disappointing when it gets to that level where there’s people in the Philippines trying to promote absolute lies.”
