Anthony Minichello on Cooper Cronk’s replacement

The NRL Grand Final between the Storm and the Roosters is just 3 days away and still speculation is rife about whether star Chooks halfback Cooper Cronk will line up for the game

If Cronk is unable to recover from a shoulder injury there are a number of players in line to steer the Roosters around the park in the last game of the year. One of the potential replacements is rookie Sean O’Sullivan.

Roosters Legend and former premiership winning Captain Anthony Minichello spoke on the Macquarie Sports Radio Breakfast Show with Mark Levy and Mark Riddell about who might step in for Cronk should he be unavailable. “Robbo (Roosters coach Trent Robinson) first of all mostly looks at defence so he’s probably more inclined to put someone bigger there but I like the way Sean (O’Sullivan) plays. He came in during the year and played a really good debut game. He can kick the ball, he can pass.”

If Cronk is ruled out, Luke Keary, a premiership winner with the Rabbitohs in 2014, will lead the team around park as the primary ball player. Minichello was glowing in his assessment of Keary’s form for the Roosters. “He’s been outstanding ever since he came across from our next door neighbours (Rabbitohs). He’s controlled a lot of the games this year as well and he adds that spark in attack where he’s got that great dummy and go, that turn of speed and then his pass selection has been fantastic for us. I think he’s been one of our best.”

On how he expect the game to play out he said, “I think it’s going to be a full defensive battle from both teams. There’ll be something special that has to happen in attack to pull the defensive teams apart. It’s going to come down to a special moment, maybe from Latrell.”

The NRL Grand Final takes place at ANZ Stadium this Sunday at 7:40pm.
