Auld responds to Kennett

President of Hawthorn, Jeff Kennett believes the 2019 AFL fixture “does not entirely respect our great club”

Kennett yesterday released a statement to club members after the fixture was announced, disgruntled at being offered only 1 home Friday night game and no matches on Thursday night.

Responding to Kennett on Macquarie Sports Radio Breakfast, Travis Auld, GM of AFL Clubs and Fixturing “I quite enjoy my conversations with Jeff, we’ve had a few of them leading into the fixture.”

The Hawks will play 4 of the 6 finalists last year at the MCG, with the way the ladder finished they’re all non-Victorian sides. Hawthorn fans will see their side feature in 5 Friday night matches, only 1 of them being a home match.

“He would have liked, in his view a little stronger commercial draw. The Hawks had a bumper commercial draw in 2018, next year looks a lot like 2017 it sort of cycles a bit like that” said Auld.

The 2019 season opens on Thursday, March 21 with Carlton vs. Richmond at the MCG.
