Aussie tennis star cops drug ban

Rising Australian tennis star Omar Jasika has been handed a two-year ban after returning a positive drug test last year.

Jasika, 21, tested positive for cocaine while competing at a wildcard playoff tournament leading up to the 2018 Australian Open.

A talented left-hander and former US Open boys’ champion, Jasika has not played since March due to ASADA hearings relating to his case.

Seasoned tennis reporter Craig Gabriel told Macquarie Sports Radio Jasika is a “good kid” that deserves a chance to save his career when he returns to the court.

“I feel very sorry for Omar,” Gabriel said.

“I really do hope he gets himself right and he’s able to come back. I think he needs to be given another opportunity, for sure,” he said.
