Battle for the beach: Titans take on Suns in race for success

Australia’s sporting graveyard is playing host to a high-stakes race for success, as the Gold Coast Titans and Gold Coast Suns vie to attract fans in one of the nation’s most competitive markets.

Both sides finished second-last in the NRL and AFL respectively this season, in a part of the country that has seen numerous teams rise and fold in quick succession.

Newly-appointed Titans boss Steve Mitchell believes it is “paramount” his NRL outfit achieves success before the Suns.

“We need to be successful in our market now to market the growth of the club,” Mitchell told Macquarie Sports Radio‘s Cam Reddin.

“I think it’s paramount we get success earlier,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell, formerly chief executive of Touch Football Australia, replaces the outgoing Graham Annesley, who accepted a senior role with the NRL.

“Regarding the competition in the AFL, absolutely we need to put our best foot forward… and climb that ladder,” he said.
