BBL chief: Playing on Christmas Eve is “exciting”

Head of the Big Bash League Kim McConnie is confident the decision to schedule a Christmas Eve fixture will prove successful.

The eighth edition of the BBL will see an increased 59-game season, with the competition running from December 20 and culminating in a final on February 17.

But it was the revelation of a Christmas Eve Sydney Smash between the Thunder and Sixes that headlined our Afternoons show, with McConnie saying the “experiment” would work.

“Christmas Eve was something the Sydney Thunder were keen to have a bit of a go at,” she said.

“Something we’ve been doing frequently is consulting the players and we had quite a few meeting with the ACA and had quite a few meetings with them.

“Christmas Eve isn’t Christmas Day and BBL only down tools for two days a season and a most of the staff are already working over that period and there’s a lot of excitement about playing on December 24.”
