Brent Tate on Cameron Smith’s surprising future
One of Cameron Smith’s former Queensland and Australia teammates, Brent Tate, told Macquarie Sports Radio that Smith has the right attributes to coach in the Origin arena.
“I think there’s no doubt that at some stage Smithy will do something, I think, like Mal [Meninga] and Kevvy [Walters] have done. I don’t think it’ll happen straight away, but I definitely think down the track, Smithy will play a huge role in our makeup of Origin again. I think he’s got that same aura as Mal and that same respect when he walks in the room.”
Tate also spoke to David Morrow and Tiffany Cherry on Macquarie Sports Radio Mornings about the upcoming State of Origin series and the outsiders tag given to the Queensland team after losing a host of legends.
“That’s what Queensland spirit is all about isn’t it, really? That backs-against-the-wall, underdog sort of stuff. I just get the feeling that this year there might be a little bit of a script written that way because I’m sure that NSW will start as favourites and a lot of people will be writing us off, and probably rightly so with who we’ve lost, but you just never write off that Queensland spirit.”
He also speculated who will captain the side, and what sort of hole Cameron Smith will leave in the Queensland team.
