Craig Gabriel slams ‘stupid’ crowd members who booed Alex Zverev

Weekend Mornings

Alexander Zverev has apologised after requesting a replayed point against Roger Federer.

The incident occurred in the second set of Zverev’s semi-final win over the Swiss champ at the ATP Finals.

Zverev stopped play during the tie-break when a ball boy dropped a ball. The point was replayed as the rules state.

The crowd booed Zverev after the game, despite Federer himself defending the action.

Macquarie Sports Radio’s tennis expert Craig Gabriel slammed the crowd’s reaction.

“What I would have thought was an educated British crowd were pretty stupid about the whole thing,” Gabriel said.

“Zverev was completely within his rights to do that.

“Even Federer said he had no reason to apologise. It was a totally legitimate situation.”
