Craig Lowndes chasing a special record in the Top End
Supercars driver Craig Lowndes has a special affinity with the Hidden Valley circuit in Darwin.
His first win in the Top End came way back in 1998, and this weekend, he has the chance to become the most successful driver of all time on the track.
“For me, it does have some great memories. Darwin is one of the circuits we’ve clicked at. It really is one of the greatest layouts.”
Lowndes has greeted the chequered flag on seven occasions in Darwin, and trails Mark Skaife by just one win.
Lowndes’ all-new Commodore hasn’t been keeping pace with the Shell V-Power so far in 2018, but as he told Julian King, his car is better suited to the Hidden Valley circuit.
“We had a good test day last week and we’ve uncovered a few things about the car that will be suitable to the Darwin circuit, but we’re really confident heading up to the north this weekend.”
Lowndes is sitting in third place in the Supercars Championship behind Scott McLaughlin and Shane Van Gisbergen.
