Curious case of David Warner and the sensitive sledge

A “nasty, personal” sledge was reportedly behind David Warner’s brief departure from the field in yesterday’s grade cricket match.

Warner was playing for Randwick-Petersham when he abruptly left the field, only to return minutes later.

It emerged that Warner’s reaction was prompted by a comment reportedly directed at him by an opposing player from Western Suburbs.

It is believed the alleged comment came from a member of the opposing team who is well-known to Warner.

This is the latest twist in his road back to the Australian side after being banned for 12 months over the ball-tampering scandal.

Warner finished the day on 114 not out.
