Damien Cook has opened up about his first meeting with Wayne Bennett

The future is looking bright for Australian hooker Damien Cook having put pen to paper on a massive 5 year contract extension with South Sydney

His commitment to the club was the second piece of good news for the Rabbits having secured the services of Supercoach Wayne Bennett a year early from the Broncos.

Cook joined the Macquarie Sports Radio breakfast show to talk about meeting Bennett, “I met him the other day. I just had a brief chat. Not really about footy or anything. He was a good bloke. He’s come in and started work straight away.”

Cook is relieved to finally move on from the coaching merry-go-round that has dominated back pages for the majority of the NRL off season,“It’s a good thing it’s been put to bed now and we can all move on cause we’ve got a lot of great young talent in our side. If it dragged on any longer it there could have been these boys missing out on a preseason that’s very important leading into a big year.”

Cook also spoke of how confusing training had become for former Souths coach Anthony Seibold before the swap with Bennett was finalised, “While Seibs was here he wasn’t sure what to coach because if Wayne came in he didn’t know if he’d change anything.”
