Warner: Daniher should be given national honour

Herald Sun AFL reporter Mick Warner has endorsed Neale Daniher as the next recipient of the Australian of the Year award.

The former Essendon player and Melbourne coach was diagnosed with Motor Neuron Disease in 2013 and has dedicated the remainder of his life to finding a cure for the insidious disease.

The annual Big Freeze match between Melbourne and Collingwood enters its fourth year in 2018, with all 18 coaches going down the icy slide to raise money for the Fight MND fund.

“It’s astonishing what Neale Daniher has done,” Warner told Afternoons.

“He’s been suffering for five or six years now and his mantra is ‘choose your attitude’.

“We’ll have all the 18 coaches going down the slide and it’s inspiring. It says it all that Neale’s been able to get all the coaches in the one place to slide.”
