Dawson Simpson brings in highest tally for GWS

GWS have excelled to sixth on the ladder and are back in finals contention with wins over premiers Richmond and Port Adelaide and six victories from their last seven games.

Speculation about their performance has been rife with many first-round draft picks and injuries for key players, but it’s their lower round selections from last year who are making a big impression.

29-year-old ruckman Dawson Simpson excelled against Port, collecting 46 hitouts, his highest tally for the club and the third best haul of his career.

“Dawson is probably in the best patch of his career and he’s been in the AFL for a really long time,” GWS vice-captain Stephen Coniglio said.

Dawson Simpson joined John Stanley and Mark Riddell and opened up about his season and the struggles he faces when moving to Sydney.
