DCE takes swipe at Manly administration

On a personal level Daly Cherry-Evans has had a year to remember having returned to the Queensland Origin side as well as being selected at halfback for the Australian team to take on New Zealand this weekend. However at club level the story has been very different with Daly’s Manly Sea Eagles moving from one scandal to the next. The season culminating in coach Trent Barrett handing in his resignation and Manly finishing second last on the ladder

On the back on the turmoil engulfing the club reports began to emerge that Cherry-Evans along with star brother’s Jake and Tom Trbojevic, frustrated at the treatment of the coach, were set to walk out on the club.

Daly Cherry-Evans spoke with on the Macquarie Sports Breakfast show this morning to set the record straight. “I’m heavily invested in the place in regards to my time and my love and passion for the place. Jake and Tom (Trbojevic) are certainly on that same level of support for the club. At the end of the day we just want to see the right decisions made for the club moving forward. We strongly believe in the playing group that we have. We feel as though with the right things put around us we could really make an impact in the competition next year.”

The Manly captain acknowledged that the performance of the playing group in 2018 had not been up to standard, “No doubt our club has got to be better in certain parts. You know I can’t look outside of our playing group. We finished 15th this year so there needs to be a really, really big change in mindset and you know I can only hope the front office isn’t happy with the way they’re running things because we can always do better as a club and we can always make improvements. So as long as the playing group and the front office is trying to make those improvements then I know Manly is going to be on track really soon.”

Cherry-Evans will line up for the Kangaroos this Saturday against New Zealand at Mt Smart Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:45pm AEDST.
