Dees midfielder on Freeman: “We all know what he can bring.”

Melbourne midfielder Christian Salem has opened up on his  relationship with the injury-plagued Nathan Freeman as he prepared to make his AFL debut on Saturday night.

Salem played underage football with Freeman – who was originally drafted by Collingwood before moving to St.Kilda – ended up being picked directly after him in the 2013 AFL National Draft.

Freeman was taken at pick 10 while Salem was recruited by Melbourne at pick nine in a draft that included superstars Marcus Bontempelli and Zach Merrett.

“I had a close relationship with (Nathan Freeman) growing up,” Salem told Afternoons.

“It’s been frustrating not only for him but for everyone watching but we all know what he can bring.

“I’ll be tuning in, I’m looking forward to the game and hopefully he gets through alright. There’s been a lot of frustration but it’s worth all the hard work now.”
