Essendon assistant opens up on “strange” coaching exit

Essendon assistant coach Mark Harvey has admitted the departure of Mark Neeld during the season was “a bit strange”.

The club opted for a coaching re-shuffle after their Round 8 loss to Carlton and have since bounced back with two consecutive wins against Geelong and GWS respectively.

Harvey told Afternoons the club “dealt with it” after Neeld’s departure and praised the response of the players over the last fortnight.

“We’re collaborating at the moment to drive the playing group in the right direction,” he said.

“There was a lot of media pressure on us and the playing group’s pride took a bit of a hit.”
