Finally, after 6 years, Matt Buntine will play game 50 this weekend
Matthew Buntine’s career as a professional Australian rules footballer began in 2011 when he was selected at No. 5 by the GWS Giants in the national draft. Matt made his debut in round 8, 2012, against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba.
Throughout his career Matt has been plagued with injuries. In the seven years of the club’s history, player injuries have dogged the club but Matt says “the club is becoming a consistent, well rounded team that performs pretty well every week”.
After the disappointment of missing the club’s inaugural finals campaign in 2016, last year was another tough season. The foundation player was dropped ahead of round 3 and his season was then ruined when a routine check on his knee, after he felt some pain during a training session, revealed a torn ACL. A knee reconstruction ended his 2017 campaign.
He’s now played 7 games in a row and this weekend will play game 50 against Collingwood.
Julian King from Macquarie Sports Radio caught up with Matt ahead of the match.
