Flanagan expected to be de-registered as early as today
Cronulla Sharks coach Shane Flanagan is expected to be given a show-cause notice today and de-registered as coach of the Sharks for the 2019 season, according to leading NRL journalist Phil ‘buzz’ Rothfield.
Flanagan is being investigated for a string of emails / text messages that he sent to club officials during his suspension in 2014 following the Sharks supplement saga.
Speaking on Macquarie Sports Radio with Matt Granland and James Willis, Rothfield explained the process that will unfold throughout the day “Shane Flanagan will get a show-cause notice later today and will obviously get a chance to take his case to the NRL and maybe get legal opinion and argue his case. But i don’t think they would have gone that heavy unless they had some pretty damning evidence from emails they scanned from the clubs website serve when they were originally checking 2015 salary cap breaches.
He’ll be deregisted, he’ll be unable to coach the Sharks in 2019 if he can’t come up with fair reasoning in the next 10 days and the Sharks will be looking for a new coach.
If he’s broken those rules, he’s only got himself to blame”
The NRL will hold a press conference today to discuss the findings from the investigation and the penalties that Shane Flanagan is faced with.
