Folau situation a complex issue, according to Castle

Israel Folau’s ongoing use of social media is complex for legal reasons, according to Rugby Australia CEO Raelene Castle.

The high-profile 29-year-old has again caused controversy, recently posting a 11-minute video on Twitter demeaning same-sex marriage which was condemned by various Wallabies greats.

“I don’t use the word complex lightly,” Castle told Afternoons.

“I’ve worked really hard to find the right wording around this. I’d much rather give everyone a clear direction but it’s just not as black and white as that.”

The under-fire CEO’s response has divided opinion and she said the NSW Waratahs star needed to realise the full extent of his actions.

“He needs to recognise the impact he’s having on the organisation and not just his views but the debate and discussion those views are causing,” Castle said.

“If he wants his views to be taken in a positive vein, then posting videos like that is not the way to do it.”
