Former Socceroo “baffled” by Cahill decision

Former Socceroo’s goalkeeper Clint Bolton is baffled Tim Cahill wasn’t subbed on against Denmark in the World Cup last night.

Coach Bert Van Marwijk again refused to sub the 38-year old veteran on, instead turning to Daniel Arzani, Jackson Irvine and Tomi Juric late in the game.

Bolton said it was “frustrating.”

“When you look to your left on the bench you’re looking for someone to break open the game, firstly you throw on Arzani,” he told Afternoons with Mieke Buchan, Shane McInnes and Sam Stove.

“The next best is Cahill, he is our match winner…he is world renowned.”

Another veteran under scrutiny last night was Robbie Kruse.

Bolton says he should probably drop to the bench for the next game.

“Robbie was nowhere near the player he has been in previous years.”

The Socceroos have to come away from the Peru game with a win to have any chance of progressing out of the group stage.

Asked whether or not our campaign would be a success under Bert Van Marwijk if we lose, Bolton gave a blunt assessment.

“No, not at all.”
