Former Socceroo keeper feels for Janjetovic after error in the Sydney Derby

Sunday Morning

Former Socceroo goalkeeper Mark Bosnich feels for Vedran Janjetovic after his brain-fade in Saturday’s Sydney Derby.

The Western Sydney Wanderers’ keeper left the box to help out in defence in the 26th minute, only to be forced into handballing while still outside the area.

He was sent off by referee Jarred Gillett.

Bosnich told Macquarie Sports Radio he feels sorry for Janjetovic.

“As a goalkeeper, sometimes you’re remembered for those types of mistakes,” Bosnich said.

“I always say to goalkeepers: if you realise you’re not going to get the ball, it’s no problem to stop and backpedal.”

Bosnich said the flow-on effects from the error were decisive after the Wanderers dominated the early stages of the match.

“Their best player got taken off for tactical reasons in Baumjohann, and for the best part of an hour, they’re down to ten men,” he said.

“It was terrible for them.”
