Greenberg: Thursday night’s at ANZ aren’t a great outcome

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg has conceded Thursday night scheduling could be better.

An average of 12,908 people have attended Thursday night games this season, including just 8047 in Round 14 and 6434 in Round 19.

Greenberg told Afternoons Thursday Night Football at the 83,000-capacity ANZ Stadium “isn’t the greatest outcome” for the code.

“There’s always a balance of broadcasters having a good game on a Thursday night but also us playing the right games in the right slots,” Greenberg said.

“That’s where suburban grounds really work for us in country New South Wales or Queensland. It’s a balance.

“Where we can possibility find those balances in the schedule, we’ll look to that but it’s the competing interests with our broadcast partners who want those big games.

“It’s about getting those right stadiums in the right locations.”
