Greg Miles: My Lucky Life

Accomplished race caller now author, Greg Miles says, he had a lot of fun over the past 12 months putting together all the stories and anecdotes of his life.

With a career that spanned over four decades, resulting in 36 Melbourne Cup, Caulfield Cup and Cox Plates race calls including his very first Melbourne Cup call at aged just 22, Miles revealed he has more than enough inspiration his life in racing to fill his book.

Mark Levy and Mark “Piggy” Riddell had a yarn with Miles on the Macquarie Sports Radio breakfast show this morning and asked just how difficult was it to go back and reflect on his life?

“… to sit down and try and remember all these things that happened so many years ago was a bit of a challenge. It was a long haul sitting in the broadcast box for nearly 40 years, we tried to go back to the very beginning and it brought back a lot of old memories flooding back” said Miles.

Given his long, illustrious career, does he miss it at all? Does Greg sit at home and call horse races while watching the television?

“I do miss it but I’m not quite mad enough to sit at home and call them to myself… I might get there eventually but I’ve still got some of my marbles!”

My Lucky Life by Greg Miles is available now.
