Harrigan on NRL Referees industrial action: “Please, please don’t strike”
Macquarie Sports Radio’s Mark Levy has been campaigning on behalf of referees for better conditions and now match officials will take industrial action against the NRL.
The Professional Rugby League Match Officials is negotiating with the League over its new enterprise bargaining agreement. The whistleblowers are crying out for a pay increase and better conditions, arguing they are an integral part of the billion dollar game.
Former referee Bill Harrigan told Mornings with David Morrow and Brad Hardie he spoke with the officials, “When I heard about it I said please, please don’t strike in the middle of the finals series because it will not endear you to the general public and they will be against you and you need them on side. They came back to me and said ‘no we’ve taken that off the table’.
