Ian Chappell breaks down Australia’s batting woes

After the Australian Cricket teams’ abysmal performance in the second Test in the UAE everyone has their opinion on how to fix the struggling side

Speaking on the Macquarie Sports Radio Breakfast Show, former Test Captain Ian Chappell weighed in on the debate, “The problem is you’ve got two or three guys already in the line up who are only averaging mid 30’s in Shield cricket. You get rid of them and put in someone who is averaging about the same, that’s like shuffling deckchairs on the Titanic really. That’s when you know you’re in trouble.”

Chappell took aim at those calling for changes without clear replacements waiting in the wings, “So it’s fine to jump up and down and say ‘We’ve got to make changes’ but that’s the easy part. Dropping guys is easy, it’s replacing them with someone who’s better.”

It wasn’t all negative though with Chappell identifying a player he sees as an emerging talent, “The one bright light is young Will Pucovski from Victoria. He got a 100 late last season and started with a double century this season at age 20. That’s encouraging because that’s what Australian Cricket needs. Young batsmen churning out runs in shield cricket.”
