Ian Chappell explains Australia’s batting problems

The Australian Test Cricket side has suffered another major batting collapse in their first match against Pakistan in Dubai overnight. After being 0-142 thanks to the solid platform laid by openers Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja, was all out for 202 losing 10 wickets for 60 runs

Former Test skipper and commentator Ian Chappell joined the Macquarie Sports Radio breakfast show to share his thoughts on what Australia’s batting is so poor, “I think there’s probably a number of reasons. A young bloke now has to make a decision. He’s got to decide do I want to build a technique that’s going to get me into test cricket and perhaps allow me to play in the other two forms of the game a s well or do I want to produce a technique that will allow me to score 10 runs an over, probably get a BBL (Big Bash League) contract with a view to also getting an IPL contract. That’s where a young batsman is these days.”

Chappell went on to blame some of the coaching methods as further reason for Australia’s struggle with the bat in hand. “I’d throw into the mix some of the coaching, i mean some of the ideas around are ridiculous in batting.”
