“It is not allowable on an international stage” Greg O’Rourke on VAR decisions being played on the PA

Head of the A-League Greg O’Rourke joined James Willis on Half-Time to talk TV ratings, expansion, and the controversy surrounding VAR.

The VAR has been used in both the Melbourne and Sydney derbies this season but it was Roly Bonevacia’s disallowed goal that has got people talking.

Officials, players, and fans were kept in the dark during the VAR decision leading James Willis to ask O’Rourke whether or not the ruling needs to be played on the PA system at the ground.

The A-League boss agreed but said it’s not something the A-League can just introduce.

“At the moment that is not allowable on an international sense”

“Any changes [to the VAR] to those protocols have to be international changes”
