It’s a massive opporunity, says A-League expansion bid chief
Team 11 Project Officer Matt Windley has outlined his A-League expansion bid’s ambitious plans as the race for the league’s 11th and 12th team heats up.
Team 11, the A-League expansion bid covering the South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, is one of an estimated 10 expansion bids that are all vying for the next two A-League licences, with the final decision on the next two teams to come in late October.
The plans for Dandenong Stadium were officially unveiled on Monday, with the slated 15,000-seated stadium set to cost $170m if the FFA give the green light to Team 11. The boutique venue would host all the new team’s home matches as well as possible Rugby League and Super Rugby fixtures down the track.
Project Officer Matt Windley told Afternoons it was a “massive opportunity” to created something unique in Melbourne.
“Melbourne Victory and City are trying to be a team for everyone but (our team) would be tribal,” he said.
