It’s an adjustment, says Mitchell

West Coast Eagles midfield coach Sam Mitchell has opened up on the surface issues that have plagued Optus Stadium this year.

The 60,000-seat state-of-the-art venue replaced Domain Stadium as Perth’s primary footy stadium in 2018 and Mitchell told Afternoons the hardness of the surface has altered the week-to-week recovery time for his side.

“It’s certainly a firm surface,” he said.

‘The boys have pulled up a little bit different and our boys will have to get used to it.

“It does probably take an extra day or two to get used to the harder surface but once the boys get conditioned to it, they’ll be fine.”
