The NRL player Market is well and truly open and all eyes are firmly on which club will snap up talented Sharks fullback Valentine Holmes.
With revelations that North Queensland have put in a massive bid to entice the Townsville-born Holmes back to home soil, Mark Levy and Mark Riddell asked retired Cowboys legend and future immortal Jonathan Thurston, if he would endorse the acquisition and if they’d welcome him with open arms.
“One hundred per cent … he’s a local product with family ties here in North Queensland … he’s a footballer who knows how to find the try line, that’s probably what we lacked last year. We were making half breaks but didn’t have enough speed on the edges to really capitalise on those, so hopefully yeah we can get a deal done with him and no doubt we’ll welcome him with open arms.”
Asked whether he would be staying on at the Cowboys now that he has retired, Thurston said he would be open to do some consultancy work at the club but he’s yet to have an official chat at this stage.
