Julia Gillard backs new AFL initiative
More than 8000 Victorian footballers will shine a light on mental health this weekend when they play in a new state-wide AFL Victoria beyondblue round.
Male and female players from all levels of football across the state – from junior leagues to the Victorian Football League – will wear blue tape around their wrists to get people talking about mental health.
The round is the first event AFL Victoria will run as part of a new community partnership with beyondblue.
It follows the annual beyondblue Cup which will see Hawthorn and Sydney face off tonight at the MCG, which you’ll hear on Macquarie Sports Radio Sydney and 3AW in Melbourne.
Former Prime Minister The Hon. Julia Gillard AC and mad Western Bulldogs fan is now Chair of the Board of Directors at beyondblue and joined David Morrow and Matt Thompson on Macquarie Sports Radio to talk about the game and the progression of the public discourse on mental health.
