In 1993, V8 Supercars legend Larry Perkins partnered up with the late Gregg Hansford to tackle one of the world’s greatest race tracks, Mount Panorama.
The privately run Perkins Engineering Team had a new major sponsor on board, Castrol, and the Commodore race car was adorned in the iconic red, green, white and black sawtooth livery, with the sponsors logo emblazoned across the bonnet.
The car, the drivers, the sponsors, the circuit. The stage was set. All came together in unison and the result was a weekend as close to perfect as you’ll ever see. Perkins and Hansford took out pole position and went on to win the race that year, the first of 3 wins for Perkins in the 1990s.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of this historic win, Castrol and Nissan Motorsport’s Rick Kelly has decked his car out in the classic sawtooth livery made famous by Perkins for this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
