‘They deserved to win’ | Socceroos earn late draw with South Korea

Weekend Mornings

Massimo Luongo has saved the Socceroos from defeat with a late goal against South Korea.

The midfielder prodded the ball in after a goal-mouth scramble in the final minute of the match, which was confirmed on review.

The goal neutralised South Korea’s 22nd-minute opener.

Former Socceroo captain John Kosmina told Macquarie Sports Radio he liked the Socceroos’ energy.

“I think they deserved to win,” Kosmina said.

“The way they played and pressed last night, tactically, the idea was to suffocate the South Koreans, and generally they did.

“The amount of balls they won back in the front half, especially in the first half, was great.”

The Socceroos take on Lebanon on Tuesday in their last match before January’s Asian Cup, which will be Tim Cahill’s swansong.
