Lazarus on coaching circus: “Crazy…unbelievable…a shambles… what is it about Anthony Seibold?”

Two-time Brisbane Broncos Premiership player Glenn Lazarus is shocked by the NRL coaching merry-go-round.

Wayne Bennett has officially signed to coach South Sydney from 2020, but it is widely believed that he will swap places with current Bunnies mentor Anthony Seibold for next season. Lazarus agreed, speaking on Macquarie Sports Radio Mornings:

“I can’t imagine Wayne Bennett and Anthony Seibold coaching their respective clubs for a whole season next year knowing that they’ve signed a deal the year before to go to another club. I believe that this will happen next year. They can’t have this whole next season in limbo.”

However that certainty does not prevent the former New South Wales and Australian representative from expressing incredulity at the farcical nature of what he describes as a “coaching circus”.

“Anthony Seibold for instance. Before he has even completed his first year as a first grade coach the Broncos are desperate for him. Obviously they missed out on their first priority which is Craig Bellamy. But what is it about Anthony Seibold? No disrespect, he appears to be a really nice guy. We were at the Broncos around the same time but it just amazes me.

“And then we get other coaches that have been sacked by other clubs because of the performance of the team they were coaching being chased like there’s no tomorrow to coach a team. Honestly, you could write a movie about this coaching circus. It’s just unbelievable. It’s crazy.

“It’s just a shambles and I think you’ll find in 2019 Wayne will be at Souths, Seibold will be at the Broncos, [Ivan] Cleary will be at Penrith and [Michael] Maguire will be at the Tigers.”
