STUMPS – INDIA WRESTLE BACK MOMENTUM

Virat Kohli has torn the Australian bowlers to shreds on Day 2 of the 2nd Test, with the Indian captain ending the day 82 not out, with India 3-172.

Australia will get the new ball in 11 overs time tomorrow morning, and will hope it will bring some wickets.

Mitch Starc took two handy wickets, and Josh Hazlewood removed KL Rahul with another peach.

We will be back tomorrow afternoon from 1pm AEDT.

KOHLI AND PUJARA GO TO WORK

Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara are digging in at Perth Stadium, with Kohli bursting out of the blocks to be 22 not out off 40 balls. Pujara is more circumspect, and sits 15 from 44 ball. The captain and his experienced teammate were forced to dig deep after a tough start that saw Murali VJ and KL Rahul bowled by Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Patrick Cummins and Nathan Lyon have been able to peg the pair back slightly but Kohli has looked rarely troubled throughout his innings.

LUNCH – AUSTRALIA STRIKE EARLY

Mitchell Starc has produced a peach on the stroke of Lunch to bowl Murali Vijay and give Australia their first wicket in the match to leave India at 1-6 at the main break. Australia made 326 in their innings and the ball is doing a bit early for the Australian quicks, with Starc getting this one to tail in through Vijay and taking his off stump.

The Mitch Starc of old might be back in town. Play will recommence at 4pm AEDT.

AUSTRALIA ALL OUT

Australia have been bowled out for 326 on Day 2 in Perth and now get their first crack on this lively Perth pitch. Tim Paine and Pat Cummins put on a strong partnership but fell quickly and Australia’s tail fell down after that.

Ishant Sharma ended up with 4 wickets for India, with Jasprit Bumrah chiming in with 2 wickets.

THE BUILD UP!

Australia will go into Day 2 at Perth Stadium under a bit of pressure with Captain Tim Paine not out on 16 and Pat Cummins 11 not out. The home side got off to a strong start with Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris getting them to 0-112 before Finch perished.

The Aussies went into stumps at 6-277 and will look to build on that and put up a big score in their first innings in what looms as their best chance to put a big score on the board on a bouncy and lively Perth Stadium wicket.

Marcus Harris made an impressive 70 before being dismissed by India’s lone spinner Hanuma Vihari. Aaron Finch rode his luck and grinded out a 50 before falling Leg before wicket to Bumrah.

Following that, only Shaun Marsh was able to hit the scoreboard with another 45 before falling to Vihari.

Australia will look to post something around 350+ with this pitch likely to provide some venom to the Australian bowling attack. It is a lot cooler today in Perth with temperatures reaching a much more manageable 29 degrees with clouds around the Perth Stadium this afternoon.
