Lote Tuqiri reckons Billy’s the best!

Former QLD star Lote Tuqiri has hailed Billy Slater as the best fullback he’s ever played alongside.

Speaking on Nights with Julian King, the dual-international said he was surprised by Slater’s decision to retire from representative rugby league following this Origin series. Tuqiri admits he thought ‘Billy the Kid’ had one more season in him at the top level.

Tuqiri describes the loss of Slater as a big blow for the Maroons, who have already had to deal with the retirement of fellow superstars Cameron Smith, Johnathan Thurston and Cooper Cronk.

Another disappointment in Tuqiri’s eyes was the omission of Cowboys prop Matt Scott, who was left out of Kevin Walters’ squad for game one, along with Darius Boyd.

State of Origin One will be played at the MCG on June 6.
