Mark Webber’s advice that led to Ricciardo’s Monaco win

Monday morning was an incredible one for Australian motorsport fans. Not only did Will Power take out the Indy 500 in the USA, but Daniel Ricciardo won the prestigious Monaco Formula One Grand Prix.

Fellow Aussie Mark Webber is no stranger to that feeling having tasted success at Monaco in both the 2010 and 2012 F1 GPs.

Webber told David Morrow and Matt Thompson that he was in Monaco over the weekend and gave Ricciardo some advice the morning of the race.

“We had breakfast together on race morning and I said ‘Just keep ticking the laps off mate. It’s such a long race out in front on your own'”, Webber said on Macquarie Sports Radio Mornings.

He also revealed that Ricciardo’s future could be sorted out sooner rather than later, saying the West Australian’s stock is high in the Formula One paddock at the moment, “It’ll probably be done in the next few months… it’s the biggest decision of his career.”
