Melbourne footy fans warned not to judge the Sydney landscape

Take note, Melbourne footy fans.

Fans south of the Murray are being reminded it’s a different ball game in Sydney.

GWS’ relatively low attendances and membership figures are often the source of derision from Victorians, but the club says they don’t understand the full situation.

The Giants have 21,600 members in 2018, compared to the Sydney Swans’ 60,000, but the numbers are healthy compared to other local rivals.

21,600 would sit third on the NRL’s membership ladder, behind only one Sydney club.

“For that to happen here verges on ridiculous,” Community Liaison Officer Gavin Robertson told Macquarie Sports Radio on Tuesday.

“I honestly don’t think Melbourne have a clue about what footy’s like up here.”
