Mike Hussey’s passionate defence of Mitch Marsh

Test legend Michael Hussey has gone in to bat for Mitch Marsh.

Marsh came under fire from former Test bowler Geoff Lawson, who said his record wasn’t good enough to persist with as an all-rounder.

But Hussey told Macquarie Sports Radio Drive the criticism is “disappointing”.

“It’s a difficult role to play,” Hussey said.

“If we’re expecting an all-rounder to come in and average 50 with the bat and 20 with the ball, I’m afraid there’s not too many guys out there that can do that in the history of the game.

“You have to cut him a bit of slack.”

Hussey also took issue with the suggestion that Australian coach Justin Langer was favouring Marsh because he’s from Western Australia.

“I think that’s a bit low,” Hussey said.

“Marsh was in the team before Justin Langer was coach.”
