North Melbourne chief addresses the ‘balancing act’ with women in footy

North Melbourne chief executive Carl Delina admits it’s a “balancing act” when it comes to women in football.

But he says the Roos are intent on promoting equality.

3AW Football’s Caroline Wilson has been particularly critical of the recent departures of several women in AFLW coaching roles.

She says the game still has a long way to go.

Speaking on Macquarie Sports Radio, Delina was asked whether the Roos would prioritise employing a woman as coach when their AFLW side enters the league next season.

“It’s always a balancing act,” Delina responded.

“You want to promote equality but not diminish from merit.

“Just as it is in normal business, it’s a balancing act that has to take place.

“But you need to take proactive steps, though, to promote women and give them opportunities to develop so you can get the balance right.”
