Origin great Michael O’Connor can’t see QLD coming back from here

As a New South Welshman living in Queensland, former Blue Michael O’Connor has copped his fair share of grief over the past decade, but as he told Julian King, things are about to change.

New South Wales’ 22-12 win has them in the box seat to win the State of Origin series, and O’Connor says there’s just too much scope for improvement in Freddie Fittler’s side compared to the Maroons.

“I just think that NSW now are in a position where they can get so much better compared to QLD. Given that that was NSW’s first outing, it’s very encouraging.”

Is it complacency, or the simple truth? One thing’s for sure….the Blues were mighty impressive in Game One at the MCG.

“I thought our defence and sense of understanding of each others’ game was really effective. All of the debutants looked like they belong there.”

For at least the next few weeks, life will be a lot easier for Michael on the Sunshine Coast.
