Paine had a “far better” game than Kohli says Ian Chappell
Former Australian cricket captain Ian Chappell has given the current Australian captain Tim Paine the points over Indian captain Virat Kohli after the first 4 days of the 2nd test match in Perth.
Kohli made 123 during India’s first innings, but his century is now an afterthought with his on-field battle with Tim Paine becoming front and centre.
Speaking to Macquarie Sports Radio Breakfast with James Willis and Matt Granland, Chappell has watched the war of words unfold saying the stand-in skipper for Australia has been a shining light “I think Tim Paine has handled himself very well, he’s captained on the field better than Kohli. I think he’s had by far the better game.”
The first test match in Adelaide went into day 5 and again this test match in Perth will see day 5 play out, with a likely win to Australia expected to take the series to 1-1 leading into the Boxing Day test.
There has been much discussion in the lead up to this series about how to improve the quality and standard of test match cricket. When asked his thoughts on 4-day test cricket, Chappell would be a fan of it “I don’t have a problem with 4 day cricket. One of the ideal things about that is you can start on the Thursday, finish on the Sunday and hopefully have a lot of excitement over the weekend. It would allow a little bit more rest between test matches when you’ve got back to back games. If test cricket is starting on a Thursday all the time then people know that, 4 day cricket I’m very positive about that.”
