Bryan Martin calls for life bans for top trainers involved in the Aquanita scandal
The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board has found eight prominent horse trainers guilty of raceday treatment and misconduct.
The charges included administering horses with banned treatments, including sodium bicarbonate, which are potentially performance enhancing.
Racing royalty Bryan Martin told Macquarie Sports Radio Drive the actions were indefensible and those responsible should be banned for life.
“It’s blatant cheating,” he said.
“We don’t want them anywhere near the industry. It’s damn disappointing.”
The penalties will be handed down on Thursday.

Patrick Bartley spoke on Macquarie Sports Radio Mornings to explain the repercussions.
“It was a damning finding this morning by Judge Bowman for the Racing and Appeals Board… he was damning in his findings and damning in the behaviour of these eight people.”
“On Thursday they will have their sentences which will be harsh and which will be, I’m sure, career-ending.”
Robert Smerdon, Greg Nelligan, Denise Nelligan, Tony Vasil, Stuart Webb, Danny Garland, Trent Pennuto and Liam Birchley were the eight charged.
