OFFICIAL: FFA decides on the two teams to be included in A-League expansion

The FFA have decided on which teams will be granted licences as part of the A-League’s planned expansion.

Western Melbourne Group are set to be included next season, while Macarthur-South West Sydney will join the competition a season later.

It now means the A-League will have 12 teams in its competition come 2020.

Team 11, South Melbourne, Southern Expansion and Canberra are the bids which appear to have missed out.

Fox Football commentator Simon Hill says the competition needed it.

“I think it’s great news,” Hill said.

“Personally I wanted expansion, everyone wants expansion.

“You didn’t know whether the FFA were going to hold their nerve and actually do it, but it looks like they’re going to which is great.”

Hill also said the FFA now have to revisit the length of the A-League season to accommodate the two new teams.
