Rabbitohs coach Anthony Seibold: Sam Burgess lewd photo scandal ‘hasn’t been a distraction’

South Sydney coach Anthony Seibold says the Sam Burgess lewd photo scandal “hasn’t been a distraction” ahead of their grudge match against the Sydney Roosters.

It’s been an eventful week for the Redfern-based club with Sam Burgess addressing the media for the first time since the lewd photo scandal broke.

After the accusations were made on the previous Thursday, Souths were able to overcome the alleged incident just two days later when they came from behind to defeat St George Illawarra in a semi-final thriller.

“These things come up from time to time,” Seibold said.

“I don’t think it’s been a distraction.

“Last weekend showed we’ve got some grit in our team.

“There was a little bit of backs against the wall, but once the investigation’s complete and the truth comes out, we’re looking forward to that.”

However, Seibold said he couldn’t fault the team’s preparation ahead of a blockbuster match against their Eastern Suburbs rivals.

“I think last week it sort of hit everyone by surprise with the accusations,” Seibold said.

“We had to focus on a game which was really important for us as a club and we worked so hard to put ourselves into this position.

“We worked really hard this week and had a really focused week (and) from a training point of view I couldn’t be happier with our preparation.”

The preliminary final clash will be the final match at Moore Park before Allianz Stadium is bulldozed.
