Schwarz calls for more regional matches in Australian sport

David Schwarz has called for more games in the NRL and AFL to be taken to regional areas.

He told Macquarie Sports Radio Drive it was pivotal stadiums were full moving forward as the respective leagues try and find the right balance between TV ratings and crowd figures.

“You’ve just got to have full stadiums of people in the stands,” he said.

“Regional areas are crying out for games – we haven’t had full stadiums (at NRL and NRL games) for a long time.

“We’ve had a long of games in the AFL where they’re down on numbers because they’re getting greedy with timeslots or they don’t think outside the square other than during pre-season competitions.”

Afternoons co-host Billy McGee said the NRL should copy the NRL and take a fortnight break between the preliminary finals and the competition decider.

“You could boost up the Grand Final a bit more,” he said.
