Scott Lucas: Tom Lynch has to decide future
Former Essendon AFL star and player manager Scott Lucas says Tom Lynch must decide his future in the short-term.
The Gold Coast Suns key forward has featured heavily in the news as speculation increases on where he will play next year.
Lucas, who manages several Suns’ players, says it’s common practice for big-name free agents to come under the spotlight until a deal is done.
“I think it’s naive to suggest that there’s not going to be scrutiny around Tom Lynch,” Lucas said.
“Now there’s a very, very easy way to have all of this scrutiny disappear – sign.
“And he could’ve like many other players have done, signed many months ago.
“Not every player hits free agency, if they’re happy at their club and they work out a deal that satisfies both parties, then they sign.
“It’s no different then any other player, Richmond won a premiership last year and there has been as much scrutiny on a player as we have ever seen in Dustin Martin.”
There have been suggestions Lynch will depart the club due to their lack of success in their eight-season history.
Gold Coast have never played finals footy in their previous seven years in the AFL.
