Simon Hill’s alternate take on A-League Grand Final controversy: “We need to change the culture”

Following the widespread uproar over Melbourne Victory’s controversial offside winner in Saturday’s A-League Grand Final, Simon Hill spoke on Macquarie Sports Radio Mornings with David Morrow and Matt Thompson, and suggested that the culture around match officials needs to change, rather than the game itself.

“This system of Video Assistant Referee was always fraguht with danger in our sport [football], because it’s not a black and white sport.

“In our game the laws of the game are so wooly and give such discretion to the referee, that it was always going to open itself up to this kind of debate.”

“What we need to change is the culture, not the game. It’s not always fair, but the problem is that people don’t always accept that. They’re always looking for people to blame.”
