Sydney and Melbourne set for A-League expansion

The shortlist of teams in line to be part of the A-League’s expansion is down to 10, and Football writer for The Australian, Ray Gatt, has given his opinion on the leading chances.

“The Western Melbourne Group and Team 11 have both put together great bids. Both building their own stadiums is a good thing.”

“The South Western Sydney bid is pretty good as well with $110 million in the bank.”

Areas like the Gold Coast, Fremantle and Tasmania missed out, but Gatt told Julian King that it will most likely come down to population when the two winning bids are announced.

“They want to fish where the fish are, that’s why I think the two successful bids will come from Sydney and Melbourne,” Gatt said.

Gatt has also called for a promotion/relegation system to be introduced.
